Essays on migration between Senegal and Europe
The essays will use a new longitudinal data set to analyse different aspects of migration between Senegal and three European destination countries – France, Italy and Spain. The first essay examines the role of migrant networks and effort in making of a migration attempt a success, and studies differences with regard to the migration destination. The second essay aims to establish in how far migratory experience and access to a migrant network promote investments at origin, the timing of the investment and the type (housing, businesses, land). The third essay studies the reintegration of returnees in the labour market back in Senegal.
